The 'game

The blanket was recently recommended as a top buy for students by Which?

Households are saving money on their heating with a "game-changing" electric blanket that is said to cost just pennies to run per hour.

Heated blankets saw a surge in demand last winter when the cost of living soared to an all time high. With bills still a concern for many, some might be on the hunt for one this year.

One that has earned high praise is the Silent Night Comfort Control Electric Underblanket that shoppers have applauded for helping to make their bed "lovely and toasty" without racking up the heating bill.

The five-star rated energy blanket, which claims to cost just 3p an hour to run, was recently recommended by consumer champion Which? as a good buy for students looking to save some cash.

Available to buy in different sizes, the Comfort Control Electric Underblanket is priced from £30 for a single on the Silent Night website. Meanwhile for a double, Amazon has it priced from £35 and Argos has a double for £40. The blanket also comes in king and super king size.

Said to heat your bed up evenly, the electric blanket is made from 100 per cent polyester making it durable and soft to the touch. It features three heat settings to choose from, an overheat protection and takes just 10 minutes to heat up.

While it is suitable for all night use, experts do recommend turning off the appliance before you fall asleep to regulate your core temperature for a better sleep.

Currently a number one bestseller among Amazon shoppers, the Silent Night Comfort Control Electric Underblanket has over 26,000 five-star reviews from shoppers who say it helps them get a better night's rest in the winter season.

One review read: "Great value and game changer in winter. King size fits our bed like a dream. Easy to use, switch on high heat for 20 - 30 mins before bedtime and then switch it off. Bed is warm and toasty when you get in. Happy days! (Well, nights)."

A second gushed: "I work from home and spend the day in one room. My friend recommended sitting on this blanket instead of having the central heating on heating the entire house and it’s now halved my heating bill. Lovely and cosy… My cat loves it too, so I’m having to share it with her."

A third penned: "Money well spent. Was struggling to sleep due to my bed being cold even when I'd had the central heating on. I now put the electric blanket on for half an hour before I get in bed and it's lovely and warm and sends me straight off to sleep."

It is worth mentioning that a few shoppers have found that the sizes don't always cover the full bed, as one said: "It is okay, smaller than expected. Decent enough. Not overly impressed."

If you're looking to get ready for the colder season, another option on the high street is the Slumberdown Warm Hugs Electric blanket from Argos. It is available for a single (£30), double (£35) and a king-size (£40).
